No, that's not a typo.
Henry is a bit of a
puzzle, as he hit very well from the time
he started playing in the VSL but didn't earn a regular job until 2008. He got
his first invitation to US spring training in 2009. The solution to the puzzle
may be his size. He's listed at 5'5" in the Pirates' media guide
and 5'9" at MiLB.com, so it's possible he grew and the media guide wasn't updated.
I saw him in spring training and I'm inclined to go with the media guide.
In any event, despite the strong hitting and excellent plate discipline, the Pirates
probably have doubts about his ceiling. Although he's listed in the
media guide as a shortstop, he hasn't played there at least in
the last three years. He played second and third, slightly more of the latter,
in the VSL, and served as a DH more than he played either position. In
the GCL he played mostly third, where he had a fielding percentage
of .838 (which isn't quite as shocking as it seems), and a
little at second. At the plate, Henry was good at putting the bat on
the ball but not much else. Most likely he'll return to the GCL in 2010.
