-PRIMUM REGNUM DEI-
Seek ye first the kingdom of God; and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.

This web page is dedicated to Fr. John Phelan, S.J., our spiritual advisor, mentor and friend, whose visit to the alumni in the U.S. northeast inspired and initiated the establishment of this organization.

ATENEO DE NAGA

The Ateneo de Naga belongs to a network of Jesuit schools in the Philippines and the world. It is located in Naga City, in the Bicol region, southeast of Manila.

More than fifty years ago, the Most Rev. Pedro P. Santos, 31st prelate and first Archbishop of Nueva Caceres, invited Fr. John F. Hurley, S.J., then Superior of the Philippine Jesuits, to run a Jesuit school for boys in his diocese. It was on May 2, 1940, when Fr. Francis D. Burns, S.J., aided by by five other Jesuits, first established the Ateneo de Naga.

In June 1940, classes formally started with 100 elementary and 550 high school students. On June 5, 1947, a college was opened with 87 students. In October 1953, the college became co-educational with the admission of five women.

Throughout its more than 56 years of existence, the Ateneo de Naga has made significant breakthroughs. Today, it offers Masters Program in Education, Business Administration, and Public Administration with an enrollment of over 200 graduate students. There are now more than 3800 college undergraduates and more than 1,450 high school students.

Ateneo de Naga continues to actively pursue its goal of excellence and commitment of service to Bicol and the nation as an educational institution training "men and women for others".

The members of this association are honored and privileged to be a part of that commitment.

In 1998, AdeN was conferred a University status. The Ateneo de Naga community, including its alumni, is very proud of this achievement.

Pambansang Awit

Bayang Magiliw
Perlas ng silanganan
Alab ng puso sa dibdib mo'y buhay.
Lupang hinirang
Duyan ka ng magiting
Sa manlulupig di ka pasisiil.
Sa dagat at bundok
sa simoy at sa langit mong bughaw;
May dilag ang tula at awit sa
paglayang minamahal.
Ang kislap ng watawat mo'y
tagumpay na nagniningning.
Ang bituin at araw niya'y
kailan pa ma'y di magdidilim.
Lupa ng araw
ng luwalhati't pagsinta
Buhay ay langit sa piling mo
Aming ligaya na pag may mang-aapi,
Ang mamatay ng dahil sa iyo.
