Statement of Purpose

We are a group of alumni from Ateneo de Naga, a Jesuit college in the Philippines, now residing in the Northeast region of the United States. Our association was organized as a not-for-profit corporation under the Laws of the State of New York primarily to provide direct financial aid to the college and to grant four-year scholarships, through the Scholarship Fund program, to bright students with limited financial resources attending the Ateneo de Naga College. By establishing a perpetual Scholarship Fund, we are able to support one deserving student for four years out of interest income of the fund. (Please contact the President for details about the Scholarship Fund or read the newsletter for some important details).

The Association's main source of income is derived from membership fees and donations from members. Because these sources are very limited, we solicit private donations and continuously engage in fund raising activities.

History

In October 1990, Fr. Jack Phelan, S.J. visited the tri-state area, comprising the states of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. An informal gathering of Ateneo de Naga alumni was held to welcome Fr. Phelan. This event became a watershed for the association as subsequent alumni meetings led to its eventual formal incorporation.

Fr. Raul Bonoan, S.J., President of the Ateneo de Naga College, came on two separate occasions, once in 1991 and once in 1994. To a gathering of alumni, he reported on the progress and challenges facing the Ateneo de Naga and presented the concept of the Scholarship Fund. He invited the alumni's participation in the School's mission of providing quality education in the Bicol region.

It was in October 1994 when the Ateneo alumni from the tri-state organized and elected its officers in response to this call for involvement. Thus, the ADNAA-USA Northeast was formed. The association was formally incorporated in January 1996 and expanded its operating area to encompass not only the three states mentioned above but the other states in the northeast region of the US as well, namely: Connecticut, Maine, Massachussetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
