ADMINISTERING,
DIRECTING and TEACHING...
The
big news this fall is that I have taken on the position of Camp
Director for Kaleidoscope Creative Arts and Sciences Camp, an
eight-week Jewish Community Center day camp in Newton, MA. I spent
much of the summer learning about the camp, working with the staff
and children, and exploring all of the nuances of this terrific
program. Kaleidoscope includes classes in music, dance, theater,
visual arts and science as well as a social service component.
I will assume my duties in September for the 2009 season, and
will have an office at the JCC in Camping Services.
I
have continued to direct shows at the Performing Arts Center of
MetroWest (PAC) in Framingham, MA. Last fall brought our fourth
annual "Holiday Revelry," a
family show with adults and children which celebrates the winter
holidays. Inspired by the Christmas Revels, it combines storytelling
and story dramatization with traditional and contemporary music
and theater into an involving pageant for all ages. I will again
be directing "Revelry" in the fall of 2008 - auditions
are Sunday, Sept. 14, 3-5pm and Monday, Sept. 15, 6-8pm. Call
508 875-5554 for more information.
This
summer, I was proud to be a part of the first-ever CBACT Festival
of Children's Theaters at the Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown,
MA. The Consortium of Boston Area Children's Theaters (CBACT)
was founded two years ago, with the mission of bringing together
many of us who work in children's theater. The festival was a
huge success, including performances by the Watertown Children's
Theater, Arlington Children's Theater, UnCommon Children's Theater
and Riverside Theater Works. A highlight of the festival was the
reprise of the spring PAC show, "Once Upon a Mattress,"
which I adapted and directed in a 50-minute, festival format.
The cast was outstanding!
Currently I'm
directing a great production of "Guys & Dolls,"
one of the most fun and best-written musicals of all time. The
students are entering grades 3-9 and are singing and dancing their
hearts out! Performances are Aug. 21 & 22 at 7:30pm at the
Framingham Civic League, 214 Concord Street. Call 508 875-5554
for tickets!
I continue to
teach part time at the Benjamin Franklin Charter School. This
marks my sixth year as drama director there, teaching classes
and directing the winter middle school production.
It should be
a wonderful year - hope yours is enjoyable as well.
