*     Recruited to build a team and direct the development of an MIS subsystem utilizing a PRO-IV RAD/UNIX/C/client-server/DEC-VAX platform to be marketed to outside users, primarily IPA’s.

*     Additionally, within the HMO group as a whole, formalized the methodology of the Information Systems staff (internal programmers and analysts) and designed a tracking system to manage rapid application development  projects.

*     Assisted in the development of a benefit limit and exclusions module.

*     Designed enhancements to capitation/risk-sharing module.

*     Served as a technical advisor to the national association of Blue Cross/Blue Shield organizations on the development of standards for electronic claims.

*     Supervised/coordinated the production of extensive general HMO system requirements for potential new vendor.

*     Lead special projects for nationally recognized clients – including Stanford University , Georgetown University , U.C.L.A., U.C. San Diego , and U.T. Dallas – coordinating Systems Design, Programming, Market Research, Sales, and Service departments, reporting independently to VP Client Service.

*     Worked with select design team to develop a distributed processing system for managing the delivery of ambulatory care for hospitals and university medical schools (Honeywell/COBOL/Intel/CPM).

*     Developed prototype PC configuration for internal staff communication and mainframe interaction (early telecommuting).

*     Instrumental in the decision to develop completely new large scale, distributed processing, client-server system (VAX/VMS/ Pro-IV/Unix/C).  Active on team producing comprehensive requirements documentation.

*     Introduced matrix management concepts resulting in a company-wide restructuring and better end-user service.

Western Regional Manager, Client Services

1981 to 1988

*     Advanced rapidly from hire position of Service Representative to Western Regional Manager.

*     Hands-on management responsibility for initial client analysis and conversion, systems utilization analysis, advanced systems training, and ongoing change processes for clients in a six-state region.

*     Hired, supervised, and trained several systems analysts serving university medical schools, county hospitals, and medical clinics.  Primary responsibility for Stanford University Clinics.

*     Produced more after-installation sales and net revenue than any other region, performing well above industry standards.

*     In addition to management duties, selected to sit on the committee developing baseline applications design of a new PC-based, networked system for clinics and small hospitals.

*     Key contributor to the design of several major software enhancements to shared mainframe system including HMO tracking and reporting, general ledger, open claims, ad-hoc reporter, appointment scheduling, and foreign systems interfacing.

*     Frequently developed course materials, produced documentation, and led training sessions for both in-house staff and clients.

Business Manager

*     Hired as this group's first professional manager/administrator. Responsible for all administrative functions.

*     Instituted CRAHCA chart of accounts; standardized the processing of payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, insurance and collection procedures.

*     Produced first comprehensive, comparable periodic financial reports.

*     Instrumental in the formation of a professional corporation.

*     Negotiated employee benefit contracts for professional liability, group health, and disability income insurance plans.

*     Group income increased more than 50% in the first year and an additional 30% in the second year under my management at this eight-year-old organization.
