The island of Eilean Donan has been a fortfied site for at least eight hundred years, but the present castle was re-built between 1912 and 1932. 

Located in Port Glasgow. 

The older parts of the castle date from the later fifteenth century.  The major remodelling of the castle was done in the 1590s by Patrick Maxwell. 

The first record of a castle comes from the early 12th century.  As a fortress and royal palace its buildings were frequently destroyed and rebuilt. 

Tantallon was built in the mid fourteenth century.  It was the stronghold of the "Red" Douglases, Earls of Angus.  Its days as fortress and residence ended in 1651 at the hands of Oliver Cromwell's guns.
