Monday: Demolition Derby starts. The old siding comes
off to reveal the lovely brown color the house used to be. And before
that, it was green. Someone forgot to take off the shutters before
painting.

The lower kitchen cabinets, counter and sink are removed
- good riddance!

The new water heater is installed. Originally they
were not going to reconnect the gas line so no hot water tonight.
But the plumbing inspector discovered a gas leak (not related to my
project), so the plumbers and gas company got it done. Let's hear
it for hot showers!
Tuesday: HOLY COW!!! The rest of the cabinets are
removed, as are the walls and part of the panelling. This guy has
the coolest job ever - he whacks things with a hammer till they come
apart! It's strange to have the thermostat dangling in mid-air.

Under the panelling in the living
room, there is a heart with "Pam + John" written on the
wall (to the right of the window). These must be the previous owners
who put up the panelling. Considering the decor, it had to be 30 years
ago. I'm on a quest to find out who they were!

Wednesday: The new front door is installed. It has
a half-moon glass to match the curve on the underside of the portico.

Thursday: Some of the duct work has to be run through
the downstairs bathroom. This will drop the ceiling a few inches.
It's starting to encroach on my living space, but I'm ok with that...

Friday: The new siding goes on. They should finish
up on Monday. It is essentially the same color, light blue, but the
new stuff didn't match the old stuff, so it all had to be replaced.
Yet another case of "project creep."
