I am now a member of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution .

My Revolutionary War ancestor is George Warne, born 13 April 1713 at Monmouth County, NJ, and died at Broadway, Sussex Co., NJ on 13 October 1789. His wife was Abigail Warford, born 19 April 1718 and died 16 November 1794 at Mansfield Twp., Warren Co., NJ.

Here is my line, from George Warne to my grandparents, Fred and Muriel Hunt:

  • Joseph Warne, son of George & Abigail (Warford) Warne, was born 6 January 1748 at Mansfield Twp., Sussex Co., NJ and died on 6 October 1798 at same. His wife was Margaret "Aunt Peggy" Vliet, who was born 10 October 1746 at Mansfield Twp., Sussex Co., NJ and died October 1840 at same. They were married circa 1775. Peggy Warne was referred to as an obstetrician (though not truly a doctor) by the Waren County Medical Society in 1890 and was given equality with the local doctors. The Phillipsburg, NJ DAR chapter is named for her, though she is no longer considered a "Patriot" by the National DAR.

  • Abram (Abraham) Warne, son of Joseph & Margaret (Vliet) Warne, was born 16 April 1787 at Broadway, NJ and died 29 July 1859 at same. His wife was Amy Inscho, born 27 December 1785 at Broadway, NJ and died 15 May 1845 at same. They were married circa 1806 at Broadway, NJ.

  • James Stewart Warne, son of Abram & Amy (Inscho) Warne, was born 20 December 1826 at Warren Co., NJ and died 23 March 1908 at Broadway, NJ, buried at Washington, NJ. His wife was Jane W. Taylor, born 10 March 1826 at NJ, died 15 Sept 1890 at Broadway, NJ. They were married 18 September 1849.

  • Laura E. Warne, daughter of James & Jane (Taylor) Warne, was born 27 August 1859 at Warren Co., NJ and died after 1920. Her husband was George J. Compton, b. August 1851 in NJ, died between 1911 and 1920. Both were mentioned in the Warne Family genealogy, which was published in 1911. They were living at Portland, Northampton Co., PA as of the 1910 Federal Census, and Laura was living with her son, Clyde, in Mount Bethel, Northampton Co., PA at the time of the 1920 Census.

  • Nellie Bly Compton, daughter of George and Laura (Warne) Compton, was born 22 November 1889 at Morristown, NJ and died 1 January 1947 at East Bangor, Northampton Co., PA. Her husband was DeForest "Dick" Hunt, born 2 April 1886 at Johnsonville, Northampton Co., PA and died 1937 at Upper Mt. Bethel Twp., Northampton Co., PA. They were married on 6 April 1907 at Portland, Northampton Co., PA.

This is Nellie (Compton) Hunt enjoying an ice cream with her husband, "Dick" Hunt (1918).

Here is my grandfather's baptismal certificate from the Presbyterian Church at Mount Bethel.

  • Frederic D. Hunt, son of DeForest & Nellie (Compton) Hunt, was born 23 July 1908 at Upper Mt. Bethel Twp., Northampton Co., PA and died at Easton, Northampton Co., PA on 18 April 1986. His wife was Muriel G. Warrick, born 4 May 1912 at East Bangor, Northampton Co., PA and died 19 August 1992 at Easton, Northampton Co., PA. They lived last at Bangor, PA. They were married on 28 October 1931 at Portland, Northampton Co., PA.

There may be more Revolutionary War ancestors in my line, through my grandmother, Muriel. There may be a link to her great-great-great grandfather, James Jennings of New Jersey. There is question, though, of the parentage of Charity Jennings, her great grandmother. There is a copy of the Jennings family Bible record in a book about the "Jeinnings Family" at the Easton Library which lists her as a daughter of Samuel Jennings and Hannah Miller. However, the church records kept at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Johnsonville, PA lists her as a daughter of William & Anna Jennings. I will work on this link, as well as a link through the Warrick side to the McCammon/McCalmont possible patriot.
