Introduction

My husband and I decided that I should quit working to stay home when we had our first baby in 1997. I suppose it was easier for me than for some other women because I did not feel like I had a "career." But it certainly has been a lifestyle change. Sure, we don't have as many material things that some other two-income families enjoy, but I think the trade-off (being available for my children) is well worth it.

But besides loss of income, there is a sense of seclusion with being a housewife. I used to enjoy the workday world where there were plenty of people to talk to. Having a job also gives a sense of accomplishment, which is hard to find at home where the chores regularly un-do themselves with surprising speed! It shouldn't be surprising that a family of five can fill up a clothes hamper so quickly. But it does surprise me to see how dirty the kitchen/dining room floor becomes after it's just been Swiffed. (I think my husband has finally realized that I really DO clean, it just doesn't STAY clean for very long!)

Then there is the social stigma of being "just a housewife." I'm tired of some women who look down their nose at me because I don't earn a paycheck. People don't realize that running a household is like running a business, but there is no financial gain. Housewives go unrecognized in the economic structure of the country. If you work, you might hire a cleaning lady and need day-care for your children. Housekeepers and Day-Care workers receive compensation for doing the same things I'm doing (and I care more about my own house and children than someone who is paid to). I'm sure there will be a day when it will be right for me to once again be gainfully employed. Until then, I'm going to use my spare (!) time to do things like volunteer at church, take classes, help educate my children, and make crafts. Surely, there is no embarrassment in that!

What this site is about

I put this site together to show that while I do LOVE bon-bons, I'm not sitting around eating them while watching Soaps all day.

I would like to share information that might be interesting to you, and helpful, too.
