Artist's Statement I have always wondered what women will see, when they regard themselves no longer through the filter of men's eyes or the hyperbolic lens of the media or even the self-created scrim of self hatred. Will we like what we see after the veil drops; when we see ourselves as we truly are? I think we will. My paintings are about women and their lives--a subject matter that needn't be depicted with either irony or black despair. I hope that within my portraits, the women define themselves, their beauty, their sexuality and their place in the world.
