Doggerel
I have had several opportunities lately to participate in writing
a bit of doggerel for some special occasions that have occurred
among my family and friends.
These poems are all full of in-jokes, so they may not mean much to
you if you do not know the people involved. But for those of you
who do know them, here they are... so enjoy!
-
Y2K Haiku,
my take on all the Y2K hooplaplease note the dates on this page,
not that I would ever say "I told you so."
-
50 Seasons,
a toast to celebrate the first 50 seasons of the
Chorus pro Musica,
given at our 50th Season Gala.
-
To Evan and Becky,
a toast to my best friend and his bride on their wedding day.
-
Married Life with Becky,
another brief poem for that same wedding day.
-
Anna and Andy,
song lyrics written for two friends from the
Chorus pro Musica,
on their wedding day.
-
Chinese Checkers
(or, Four Decades),
a poem for Mom and Dad on their 40th Anniversary.
-
A Postcard from Limerick,
sent to my college roommate and other best friend, and
his wife, after I passed through Limerick, Ireland, back in 1993,
which may be what caused this
genetic tendency
toward doggerel to surface.
By the way, just in case you are unfamiliar with the term, my
Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary defines doggerel as verse
that is "loosely styled and irregular in measrure esp. for burlesque
or comic effect; also: marked by triviality or inferior
worth," so we ain't talkin' Shakespeare or Byron.
