sneak previewed at Chicago Sketchfest

"Whole lotta Shakira Goin' On"
is an evening of sketches, monologues and songs about the process of adapting to problems in the road of life, whether it's a dance instructor reconciling his new duties with his shady past, a Latina introducing her boyfriend to her doting family, or a TV show for teens that aims for reality, but can't handle the truth.

Aamer Arboleda ("Sammy Sosa") and Ramon Charriez ("The Hibaro") and Diane Herrera ("Angel Monica") return from the cast of the hit "Touched by an Anglo" and are joined by troupe veteran Josie Dykas (part of ¡Salsation!'s breakout performances at the Big Stinkin' Improv Festival in 1999), and two cast members who made their ensemble debuts at Sketchfest: Sofia Arroyo (Boriqua and alumna of Columbia College's Theatre Program), Eduardo "Eddie" Martinez (Salvadoreño and an upperclassman at Columbia).

Taking over the director's chair is Ed Garza, a veteran teacher of the Second City Training Center and a founding member of GayCo Productions. Founding Director Keith Privett will serve as Producer for this review.
productions at the ImprovOlympic under the direction of the late improv legend Del Close.

This is the follow-up to their 2000-01 revue "Touched by an Anglo," which earned both popular acclaim (full houses and a run extended to 28 weeks) and critical acclaim ("Hilarious...sharp edged...both funny and thought provoking.") in its runs at Donny's Skybox Studio at Second City and in Pilsen.

¡Salsation!, Chicago's first and only all-Latino improvisational and sketch comedy ensemble performs 99% en ingles (in English), with appeal to all audiences. It was founded in 1998 by Latino actors from Chicago's improv comedy community who wanted to work together. The performers are natives of Chicago and but their families are from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia, and El Salvador. They were trained at Second City, ImprovOlympic, Colombia College and DePaul University. Their credits include: independent film, television, commercials, and several productions at the ImprovOlympic under the direction of the late improv legend Del Close.
