Swim Meets - Information

Here is some information
concerning Swim Meets.

Start Times & Check-In
Weekday meets (Tuesday and Thursday) start with warm-ups at 5:00PM. Mandatory check-in time is at 4:40PM. Saturday meets start with warm-ups at 8:00AM. Mandatory check-in time is at 7:40AM. Please be on time!! Your swimmer will be scratched from a meet if the coaches and officials do not see them at beginning of warm-ups, so please inform the coach if your child will be late.

Meets run between 3½ and 4 hours long. If you and your swimmer must leave before a meet ends, or if you have a conflict and cannot arrive on time, please inform the coach so that your swimmer may be entered in the appropriate events. We do not want a relay scratched because a swimmer has to leave early and nobody was informed.

The swimmers will be informed the morning of the meet or the day before a Saturday meet, which event they will be swimming. However, due to last minute cancellations and/or no shows (we hope that will not happen), events may change. Please be understanding. The coaches do the best job they can to make all swimmers happy, but teamwork from all sides (parents, swimmers and coaches) is required.

Swimmers are allowed 3 individual events and 2 relays. Swimmers will be swimming a non-favorite event here and there; this all depends on total number of swimmers at each specific meet. Swimmers will swim their age group, however, they may be moved up for a relay one age group if not enough swimmers are present for that specific age group.

Code of Conduct - Updated May 2004
Here are some common sense rules.
and the Code of Conduct while you are at any Swim Meet.

  1. Stay with your team.
  2. Don't leave the pool to go home. You will be missed, and scratched from upcoming events & relays.
  3. Be alert as to what event is next, & when you are swimming.
  4. Get out of the water as soon as you reach the finish, especially with Relay events. Please return to the team area so coaches can find you for the next lineup.
  5. Stay in back of the timers until your event is called.
  6. Keep the team area clean & no glass bottles. Please help keep the area clean for both home & away meets. Leave a good impression.
  7. Observe standard pool rules for conduct.
  8. Stay out of other areas, diving, wading, & roped-off areas.
  9. Bring enough items to keep warm & dry - especially at night - such as long sweats, sleeping bags, socks, and several towels. Even on a warm afternoon, it gets cool or cold as the sun goes down.

Disqualification:
The Judges located around the pool perimeter may disqualify a swimmer for a variety of reasons. They mark on a red card the Event/Heat/Lane information and the reason for the disqualification. 5. Butterfly Stroke: Illegal kick, illegal arm movement, one hand touch on turn.
  6. Freestyle Stroke: pulling yourself via the lane buoy, pushing off the bottom.
  7. Individual Medley: All of the above, - wrong stroke sequence.

Software: Team & Meet Manager
The coaches of the swim conference teams are all using the same scoring software. This allows them to pre-enter each team's roster for their Swim Meets, and then just exchange the database files via email or diskette. Any last minute changes to the event rosters may be entered at the time of the Swim Meet, but that means a delay and re-print of the event rosters.
