Mani stone: the popular Buddhist prayer chant Om Mani Padme Hum, meaning 'hail to the jewel in the lotus' is carved onto thousands of stones and slates along the trail.  As with any Buddhist shrine or monument, it is customary to keep to the left when passing.  Kongde Peak is in the background.
