| “Creek
Culture: Life and Work along the Chelsea Waterfront”
documents industrial and recreational activities along Chelsea
Creek. A
key goal of the project is to bring into public view activities occurring on
the waterfront that remain completely inaccessible and virtually unknown to
Chelsea residents.
Commercial
and industrial resources along Chelsea Creek include airport
parking; cargo freight forwarding; bulk storage
and distribution of road salt; storage of all of the jet fuel for Logan
Airport; and storage and distribution of approximately 70% of the
gasoline, home heating oil and diesel fuel arriving through Boston
Harbor.
A
Chelsea Cultural Council grant was awarded in January 2006 for the project. Exhibitions
took place in August, 2007 at the Gallery at Spencer Lofts, Chelsea;
January, 2007 at the Center for Photographic Exhibitions at the New England School of
Photography, Boston; and May 2008 at the Pearl Street Gallery, Chelsea.
