Caryl Churchill's
FEN
Widely known for such critical and
commercial successes as TOP GIRLS and MAD FOREST, Caryl Churchill is
one of Britain's most exciting and inventive playwrights. Her 1983
play, FEN is one of her most challenging and, perhaps not
coincidentally, lesser known works. FEN focuses on the contemporary
lives of a group of women land workers in the fen country of England,
constricted by sex and class, performing manual labor at the lowest
level of corporate agribusiness. Over the course of the play, they
experience life's battle between humor and monotony, hope and
desolation.
