every day
had an idea for a film today. really more of a "project".
was thinking about a sweeping historical epic about the plight of native
americans (particularly under the jackson administration) tentatively
titled, "trail of tears". here's the catch, though: i would
like to develop the project without conducting any sort of official
research whatesoever.
in fact, the only historical research would come from the fuzzed-out
memories of a group of americans chosen by me. for instance, this particular
historical event would be presented as TIRESIAS FILMS (production companies
have to have names like "tiresias" in order to garner any
sort of respect in the academic world. names that recall history and
have a sense of wit, irony, or resonance via historical distance are
particularly desirable) INTRODUCES "THE TRAIL OF TEARS: As Remembered
by Attendees of the Hard Knock Life Tour, Syracuse, NY."
i can easily see
this spawning other episodes, perhaps even an entire revisionist history
text with chapters like "the rise of fascism in western europe
as remembered by everyone at the OTB on 45th and broadway" or "the
impact of eastern religion on popular music of the 1960s as explained
by a grown man in diapers."
i have ideas. not
all of them are good, i'm afraid.
