Steps on Posting Anonymously to Newsgroups Using Private Idaho's Mail2News Gateway Option

The process described below will not give you instant gratification. It normally takes 48 hours before you will see your Message Posted to the newsgroup(s) that you selected.

1. Select Clear All from the Edit Menu
2. Select Auto-close PGP from the PGP menu.
3. Select Remailers from the Menu and then select Advanced Cypherpunk and then select Replace Subject.
4. Select Remailers from the Menu and then select Advanced Cypherpunk, finally select Encrypt to Remailer(s)
5. Select Newsgroups from the Menu and then select Remailer Newsgroup Header.
6. In the To: box, Select mail2news@anon.lcs.mit.edu as the email gateway. Please note, if mail2news@anon.lcs.mit.edu, is not listed in your address book, please add it as follows:
   • Select | File | Address Book and then add mail2news@anon.lcs.mit.edu to the address book in the location that you would like it to appear.
   • Any additions or edits are immediately recognized by Private Idaho.
   • Other email gateways that work at the PRESENT TIME ARE:
     • mail2news@nym.alias.net
     • mail2news@myriad.alias.net
     • mail2news@utopia.hacktic.nl
     • usenet-article@news.uni-stuttgart.de
     • mail2news@news.demon.co.uk
     • Keep your mail2news gateway list fresh.
7. Enter a subject In the Subject Box. You will also be prompted later by Private Idaho to enter your subject again.
8. Type your message in the message window. For example, "This is a test message sent via Private Idaho".
9. Select a Remailer from the Remailer window.
10. From the Message menu, Select Append Info.
11. You will now be prompted by Private Idaho to enter a Subject for your Message. This is will be the subject that is entered when it reaches it's final destination.
12. After entering a subject, click on the OK button.
13. Private Idaho will next prompt you for the name(s) of the newsgroup(s) that you would like to post your message to. The format should be:
    • newsgroup1,newsgroup2,newsgroup3
    • Please note that there is NO space between newsgroups, only a comma separates the newsgroups from one another.
14. Click on the OK button when done.
15. Private Idaho will shell to DOS and encrypt the message with the remailer that you selected above. Before Encryption the message window will briefly look like this:
    • ::
    • Request-Remailing-To: mail2news@anon.lcs.mit.edu
    • ##
    • Subject: Testing 1234
    • Newsgroups: alt.test,alt.anonymous.messages
    • This is a test message sent via Private Idaho
16. Your message should be encrypted within the message window. If it is not, go back to number 2 above and start over.
17. Now the only thing that's left to do is to post the message. This is done via the Send button. If you are online, press the Send button. If you are not online, select Connect from the File menu and subsequent to connecting, select the Send button.
18. That's it. Now you'll have to be patient and wait for your message to be posted anonymously.
