Shanno (yes, that's her real name & as far as she knows it means either bowling shoes or basement paneling) lead, started studying music at age six and never stopped. She began with piano, violin (thankfully briefly) and found her calling at age eight, when she joined the church choir. After graduating from a performing arts program in high school, she went on to study voice at Bowling Green State University (OH), where she started barbershopping. Though a lyric soprano by day, she sang with the Toledo Seaway Chorus (now Pride of Toledo) of Sweet Adelines International and competed in her first quartet as a bass. She relocated to Boston where she attended the Boston Conservatory of Music, and spent some time away from the barbershop world. In 1993, she re-discovered the joys of harmony as a bass with the Women of Note chorus of Harmony, Inc., and as a bari with two time International silver medalist quartet, Heartsong. Going back on her vow never to sing lead, she joined Zing! in February of 1996. Shanno is married to Thomas. She is now the proud owner of Shanno Events, planning events for corporations when she's not gardening, petting kitties, working on endless remodelling projects with Thomas, or singing backup vocals with Tracy in the Souled Out Superband. Shanno is widely credited with being able to hear a sharp bass or a flat tenor at 100 yards, a trait Zing! appreciates greatly.
