The Romance of My Morning
Cup
by Cozy Bendesky, Lower Gwynedd, PA
Conceived in a diner over breakfast, this garment celebrates Cozy's morning cup of coffee. The flowing green coat glorifies coffee, from the crinkled leaves that hold drops of water in their quilted surface to the white on white flowers made of Soft Touch Cotton Batting, micro-glitter and organza.

The flowers have been quilted and embellished with Sulky thread on Kreinik ribbons in iridescent whites and glow-in-the-dark shades. Delicately sheered ribbons from Offray support the clusters of coffee cherries. Inside, the lining of the coat provides a striking backdrop for the swirls of cream and coffee in the Vogue dress.
Cozy cut the layers of the skirt from 12 yards of sheer sparkle by Rosebar, painted some of the layers, and backed each one with dye-painted Soft Touch Cotton Batting. She stitched and trimmed the large swirls in reverse appliqué, outlining each one with satin stitching backed by Sulky Solvy, Kreinik facets, and ribbons and beads from TWE Beads.
Next, appliques of lame and Cherrywood hand-dyed cottons were added and then satin stitched under Sulky Solvy. All of the sheer layers were then soaked and spun out in the washer to remove the Solvy.
After pressing, the skirt was assembled and attached to the bodice which is replete with mirrors, beads, glitter and Austrian crystals trapped under sheer organza. Finally, all 5 skirts were narrow hemmed over 2 strands of fishing line.
Cozy's one-of-a-kind wearable art can be found in private collections, galleries, special exhibits and one-woman shows
