Electricity

by Cork Marcheschi, 1985

One role of the artist throughout history has been to make others aware of their environment, both spiritual and real. To work within this artistic function, Cork Marcheschi selects electrically produced energy as his material. As he puts it, "Electricity is a material that can be manipulated like any other.....I am a sculptor of energy."

Cork Marcheschi has lived and worked in Minneapolis, Minnesota since 1970, and is better known in Europe than America. Born in San Mateo, California in 1945, he has had one-man shows in various galleries and museums in Germany, has been part of group exhibitions in Holland, Denmark, Japan, Canada and U.S. cities from coast to coast. Since 1980 he has completed commissions for public space in Seattle, Washington, Minneapolis, Minnesota and Washington, D.C.
