Jill Hacker is a freelance writer and editor who specializes in science writing, in environmental science, and in making difficult writing simple and understandable.

Jill's freelance writing work has included meeting minutes for a high-level advisory committee to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, government fact sheets for public use, and marketing literature. Her editing projects have included rewriting project descriptions and technical resumes for environmental contractors, copyediting and substantive editing for technical reports by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Serivce on National Wildlife Refuges, and rewriting and substantive editing of graduate students' papers, including several PhD theses.

Before freelancing, Jill worked at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from 1983 to 1996, in various programs, including water, Superfund (toxic waste), and lead.

Jill has a master's degree in engineering from Columbia University and is licensed as an engineer in New York State.
