Remembering the Rutland Photo Gallery The Rutland Railroad acquired six 2-8-2 Mikado-type locomotives in 1918. These engines were built by Alco's Schenectedy Works to the United States Railroad Administration (U.S.R.A.) specifications for a light 2-8-2. They were classed H-6-a on the Rutland and formed the backbone of the Rutland freight-hauling fleet until the arrival of the diesels in the early 1950s. Rutland 2-8-2 #34 is coaled and watered and ready to take a freight
train of Boston-bound tonnage over Mount Holly. |
