Class 1

Review basic computer skills. Introduction to the Web, its history, and its characteristics as a publishing medium. Begin learning basic HTML. Assignment: read chapters 1 and 2.

   
Class 2 Explore the elements of web design; discuss steps involved in web site creation; set goals and identify content. Continuing learning basic HTML. Assignment: critique existing web sites; choose topic for final project; read chapters 3-5.
   
Class 3 Create site maps; determine navigation schemes; More HTML and Introduction to Dreamweaver. Assignment: create site map and navigation for final project; read chapter 6.
   
Class 4 Continuing learning HTML tags and Dreamweaver commands; create tables. Assignment: practice HTML tables; practice HTML frames and CSS;
read chapters 7-8.
   
Class 5

Design interesting page layouts; learn about style sheets and web typography. Assignment: use style sheets in an HTML file; continue working on web site.

   
Class 6

Use CSS positioning; incorporate web graphics, image maps and color; discuss web image metaphors. Assignment: Begin building final project sites; read chapter 9.

   
Class 7

Mid-semester reviews. Assignment: create html for home page and html template for start page of each section for final project. Post to the web. Send me the URL.

   
Class 8

Summary and review of good and bad web design. Gif animation, image maps, sound files and Flash. Assignment: work on web site projects.

   
Class 9 Discuss and view alternate web formats. Assignment: read chapters 10 and 11; work on web site projects.
   
Class 10 Examine forms, mail to: and discuss javascript. Assignment: read chapters 12-14; work on web site projects.
   
Class 11 Finish web site projects. Conduct useability tests.
   
Class 12 Always give the viewer something new. Critique class work; discuss course and future paths. Assignment: go on to design great web sites.
