Types of Plastic Bottles
Do You Know ?
- Plastics are materials usually made from oil.
- Many plastics have names beginning with the word 'Poly'.
There are 3 main types of plastic bottles that we use everyday
that we can recycle:-
- POLYVINYL CHLORIDE (PVC):-
- POLYETHYLENE (PE):_
This is used to make bottles for bleach, washing up liquid
and milk containers.
- POLYETHYLENE TEREPHTHALATE (PET):-
This is used to make fizzy drinks bottle.
What happens to the plastic bottles after you have put them
in the recycling bin?
- The bottles are taken to a separation plant where they are sorted
into PE, PVC, and PET, and washed.
- The bottles are squashed into bales and sent to the factory where
the bottles are made into threads of clean dry plastic.
- The threads are cut into small flakes, which are washed to remove
dirt and labels.
- The flakes are melted down so that new products can be made.
