This website was created as a final project for the ECT 270 course at DePaul University. Listed below are the sources used for this site. The creator and web administrator--Randy Koch--wishes to thank all sources for their help in completing this project. He can be reached by sending an email through the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of this page.
Introduction Page
The animation of the golfer hitting the golf ball into an "O" for "GOLFERS" came from the course textbook "Creating Web Pages with HTML and Dynamic HTML" by Carey and Kemper. It is a case problem in section DHTML 1.64. The javascript and HTML was either created or modified to suit the purposes of this website. Also, the background of clouds in all pages of this site came from an image file provided by the textbook's authors. A sound file of a golf swing in the page is about 10 years old, but the author believes it came from the file library of American Online.
Home Page
The images in the heading of the homepage and all subsequent pages are of Tiger Woods and Seve Ballesteros and come from cityofgolf.com and opengolf.com. The information and image for Dubsdread was provided by Cog Hill GC at coghillgolf.com. The image of the golfers came from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago's company website. The information on the Chicago Golf Show is courtesy of chicagogolfshow.com.
Local Courses
The five maps used for the north, northwest, west, southwest, and south courses all came courtesy of the Chicago Tribune's website at chicagotribune.com. However, surprisingly the creators of these maps at the Tribune never bothered to make them into "usemaps" with web links to the golf courses. They were strictly images. The author of this website turned these images into useful usemaps with links to selected golf courses. However, the process is time-consuming. Since there are several hundred golf courses listed on the maps, at the time of the final project's submission, only a select few courses on each map had actually been linked to their websites. More will be linked as time permits.
The images for the "Best Holes" came from Cog Hill's website at a coghillgolf.com. Key portions of the javascript to execute the slide automation came from Professor Raffaella Settimi of the ECT 270 class.
19th Hole
The narrative and images for "Events" came from the company website of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. The writeup covered the company's fall 2003 golf outing.
Much of the javascript used in creating the "Products" and "Membership" pages and the order form page was aided by working with homework in the ECT 270 class and the textbook from that class mentioned earlier. Specifically, sections HTML 9.49 and HTML ADD 1.30 of the textbook were very helpful. The product images and narrative ideas came from golfshoppingguide.com.
