Coon Hound Town
Breed: Coonhound
The Coonhound group consists of six distinct, purebred breeds including the Black and Tan, Bluetick, English, Redbone, Treeing Walker and the Plott hound.
If you add a coonhound to your house there are a few things you learn by experience:
- Get a big bed. Coonhounds takes up 3/4 of a queen size bed, which is unfortunate, because two adults and another dog would also like to sleep there at night. It's not unusual for someone to have to sleep in the guest room.
- Put away money in your savings account for vet bills. Coonhounds proceeded to eat everything in sight - underwear, rocks, dirt, pillows and socks.
- Buy a lot of paper towels. Coonhounds slobber after they drink. They drool when they get hot. They knock over his water bowl and other people's drinks. If they are in a kissy mood, you'll get a face washing.
- Be prepared to laugh. A lot. Coonhounds have a great sense of humor. They like to sing. They like to mumble. They like to chew tennis ball as if it were a giganto piece of gum.
- Be prepared to meet people. The black and tan coloring scares some people - they think they are a rottweiler mix. The ears confuse others - they think the Coonhound is a giant Bassett hound. Everyone wants to hear the Coonhound howl.
- Be patient. It's not that they are difficult to train, they just wanted to learn at their own pace.
- Be understanding. Coonhounds are afraid of loud noises, especially thunder. Other hound owners report the same problems.
