Everest Memorials (4,840m/15,879ft): the route from Periche toward Kala Pattar climbs almost 600m up to the Khumbu glacier. At the crest of the steep and difficult ridge above Tughla are located over 20 memorials for Sherpas and a few foreign climbers who tragically didn't make it down (including a large memorial to Scott Fischer from the fated 1996 Everest expedition). The view is fantastic, with Ama Dablam to the left, Kangtega West (6,685m/21,926ft) behind it in the distance, and Taboche Peak (6,542m/21,457ft), Cholatse Peak (6,440m/21,143ft) and Arakamtse Peak (6,423m/21,067ft) to the right. |
