Periche (4,280m/14,042ft): once a yersa or temporary yak herding area, Periche is now a crowded place, due to the Trekker's Aid Post, which was set up by the Himalayan Rescue Association in 1973. The post provides medical care to trekkers and porters, and has daily altitude education sessions. It is an important acclimatisation stop, with ascents to nearby mountains providing great views. Lobuche Peak (6,090m/19,980ft) can be seen in the background. |
