Lon's Route Description
The first challenge of the day will be the steep climb out of the Salt River Canyon. Dozens of hairpin turns along the edge of the Canyon give us spectacular views across the valley. After departing the town of Show Low the route climbs to over 9,000 feet. The final 20 miles are a fast ride from the forests down into the ranches of the valley.

Ride Recap
Today was a big day of climbing.  On top of that, we were given a target pace to reach the SAG stop around mile 63 -- missing the cut-off time put you at risk for getting shuttled forward in the SAG wagon.  Knowing all the climbing we had ahead of us, it was a balancing act to ride hard enough to meet the time limit while keeping enough in reserve to get through the day.  After the lunch stop around mile 96, my legs felt pretty dead from all the effort.  The final 27 miles of "up" before the long descent at the end was very tough and I felt pathetically slow on this stretch.  Thankfully, I met up with Jeff along the way.  Having some company made this a lot easier.  At the end of this rather tough day, one of the first orders of business was to schedule a message to help with  the recovery process for tomorrow's ride.
Me, at the top of today's second climb.
The scenic, twisty descent, was a lot of fun
Jeff Weible, riding up the today's final climb through a pine forest.  It was nice to have Jeff's company to help get through this tough section
George Jahant manning the last SAG stop before the final descent to the hotel.  The nearby cattle pens are in need of some serious maintenance.
At the hotel finish ... and looking forward to washing away 145 miles of road grime.
