French Club

The French Club at Palisades High School is an ever expanding club that meets monthly to enjoy French culture and the French language.  Each class is represented with 2 officers who form the Executive Committee.  This committee is responsible for planning club events for the academic year.

Students celebrated La Semaine Nationale du Francais - National French Week November 4th -10th.  This nationwide event celebrates the French and Francophone language and culture.  During the week, a contest was run in which students listened for the French "question du jour" and then raced to Mme Swann with the correct  answer for a bonbon.  The celebration culminated in a French food-tasting party on Thursday, November 9.  Students savored such delicacies as creme puffs (merci Mme Neiman!), baguettes, goat cheese, and the always-popular Nutella.

Other events have included the annual French, German, and Spanish clubs' holiday party on December 14th, and the Petit Déjeuner de Noël (Christmas breakfast) on December 2nd.

Upcoming events will include La Fête des Rois in January, and Mardi Gras in February.

We also have a list of members who are tutors for other French students.  If you are interested in joining the French Club, you don't need to take French (although it helps!). Come see Mme Swann or Mme Neiman in B17.

Honorary French Society

La Société Honoraire de Français (The French Honor Society) was established in the 1999-2000 school year.  Palisades has the unique honor of chartering the 2000th chapter in the United States in the year 2000.  The society was established to stimulate interest in the study of French, to promote high standards of scholarship, to reward scholastic achievement, and to create enthusiasm in the study of French.  In order to qualify, students must:
  • be actively enrolled in French Club
  • be enrolled in (or have just this last semester completed) French III, French IV or French V.
  • have maintained at least an A average in French and a B average in all other subjects

We will have an informational meeting for all those students interested in applying.  See the notice board in front of B17 for meeting times.
