9/29: Read Stephanie Schorow's "Boston on Fire: A History Boston on Fireof Fires and Firefighting in Boston, which features an entire chapter on the 1972 fire in my building that claimed the lives of nine firefighters.

9/28:Dargon DargonZine 16-3 hit the streets just three weeks after 16-2, finishing two two-part stories.

9/27: Received DeLorme TopoUSA mapping TopoUSAsoftware as an early birthday gift, then got chicken dumped in my beer at the Midwest Grill with Inna. Ya just can't argue with all you can eat meat!

Dark Tide9/26: Read Puleo's "Dark Tide, the first book devoted to Boston's mythic molasses flood of 1919 that killed 21 people and injured 150. (see 9/23)

Need for the Bike9/24: Read French cyclist and avant-garde writer Paul Fournel's lyrical "Need for the Bike".

9/23: Boston historian Steve Puleo's book "Dark Tide: The Great Boston Molasses Flood of 1919" finally came out, and I got a signed copy at one of his many local readings. Above: the wreckage of the elevated railroad.

Mindfulness9/22: Read Gunaratana's very accessible Vipassana manual "Mindfulness in Plain English".

9/17: While biking Great Blue Hill, discovered that the hole in my elbow from my PMC crash had healed over, and also got a big donation that helped me finally meet Smiling Goth Touristsmy PMC fundraising minimum. Then spent the evening at Person Ray's Crypt goth night with Inna and DargonZine writers Dave & Victor.

9/15: Mom came down for a Bradbrief visit, then saw punk rocker turned Japanese monster movie maker turned Zen master Brad Warner read from his book "Hardcore Zen". VC sniperThen was up late visiting with DargonZine writer Victor, who happened to be in town!

Inna9/13: Had a nice relaxing bike ride out to Lexington with Inna.
 

PEM9/11: Began the day by biking up to Salem for my first visit to the acclaimed Peabody Essex Museum. Dumb CatAfter I got home, the Puggle took it upon himself to clean my bicycle chain for me (photo). Then Bhindi Bazaardinner with Inna was my first trip to local Indian eatery Bhindi Bazaar.

9/7:Dargon We finally got DargonZine 16-2 out after more than six months since our last issue. This issue features the debut of Liam Donahue.

9/6: Helped Inna with her yard sale.

9/4: Inna and I got our money back from Harpers Ferry after waiting around for a show that hadn't begun four and a half hours after the advertised time.

9/3: BRC meeting.

Key Largo8/25: Call it "research". Saw the famous Bogart / Bacall / Robinson thriller "Key Largo" at the BPL.

Sheeri8/23: Had a good spontaneous bike ride (and pizza) with Sheeri, and also finished reading Thich Nhat Hanh's Our Appointment With Life"Our Appointment with Life: Discourse on Living Happily in the Present Moment".

Ed8/22: Had lunch at Joe's with former coworker Ed Schweppe.

8/19: This trip to Maine featured lots of anti-virus work and a walk down Augusta's new Kennebec River Rail Trail.

Rich8/17: Had ice cream and beers with visiting DargonZine writer Rich Niro.

8/16:Riders @ State House Spent the evening on the annual Midnight Ride, an all-night bicycle tour of Boston's most prominent architectural and historical sites. photos

8/14: While the rest of the Ziggynation was without power, I caught an electrifying free outdoor show by Ziggy Marley just outside my condo in Copley.

Thich Nhat Hanh8/13: Saw Vietnamese Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh lecture just up the street at the BPL with Dargon writer Dave Fallon.

8/11: Got the sutures removed from my big crash in this year's PMC ride.

8/9: Said goodbye to my friend Jeanie, who is moving to Austin.

8/8:Committed Picked up the new Pressure Cooker album while seeing them at the Common Ground with Matt & Nicole.

8/3: I crashed hard on wet roads only 15 miles into the PMC Riderssecond day of the PMC ride, winding up with road rash and stitches, and frustratingly unable to finish the event. Read about it in the Travelogue.

8/2: PMC Medical TeamThe first 120-mile day of this year's Pan-Mass Challenge cycling fundraiser were wet, but successful!

Jeanie Johnston7/25: Checked out the visiting replica Irish potato famine ship Jeanie Johnston during today's bike ride, and then caught the Commonwealth MacBethShakespeare Company's performance of MacBeth on Boston Common.

Jim Owens7/21: Did lunch with DargonZine writer Jim Owens and his wife, who were in town.

7/19: There's Firealways something exciting happening in my neighborhood. This time it was a fire in the building across the street.

7/13: Biked up 2008-foot Mt. WachusettWachusett Mountain, the tallest peak in eastern Massachusetts, as part of the Charles River Wheelmen's 60-mile Climb to the Clouds.

7/9: Read David Watts biographyStuart's biography of Alan Watts, the man who brought Zen and eastern philosophy to the US in the 1950s and 1960s.

Coyote7/8: Went to Maine to visit my brother and spent time at the Maine Wildlife Park in Gray.
