8/28: Completed Thich Nhat Hanh's "Anger: Wisdom for Cooling the Flames". 8/27: Caught Matt Jenson's Acid Reggae Xperience at Johnny D's with Inna, one day after her accident. 8/25: Call it "research". Saw the famous Bogart / Bacall / Robinson thriller "Key Largo" at the BPL. 8/23: Had a good spontaneous bike ride (and pizza) with Sheeri, and also finished reading Thich Nhat Hanh's "Our Appointment with Life: Discourse on Living Happily in the Present Moment". 8/22: Had lunch at Joe's with former coworker Ed Schweppe. 8/19: This trip to Maine featured lots of anti-virus work and a walk down Augusta's new Kennebec River Rail Trail. 8/17: Had ice cream and beers with visiting DargonZine writer Rich Niro. 8/16: Spent the evening on the annual Midnight Ride, an all-night bicycle tour of Boston's most prominent architectural and historical sites. photos 8/14: While the rest of the nation was without power, I caught an electrifying free outdoor show by Ziggy Marley just outside my condo in Copley. 8/13: Saw Vietnamese Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh lecture just up the street at the BPL with Dargon writer Dave Fallon. 8/11: Got the sutures removed from my big crash in this year's PMC ride. 8/9: Said goodbye to my friend Jeanie, who is moving to Austin. 8/8: Picked up the new Pressure Cooker album while seeing them at the Common Ground with Matt & Nicole. 8/3: I crashed hard on wet roads only 15 miles into the second day of the PMC ride, winding up with road rash and stitches, and frustratingly unable to finish the event. Read about it in the Travelogue. 8/2: The first 120-mile day of this year's Pan-Mass Challenge cycling fundraiser were wet, but successful! 7/31: Picked up the massive new album from the Bentmen: Live from the Lobster Bib! |

7/29: Got me the new Allstonians disc: Bottoms Up! 7/26: Robin from Beat Soup joined Michael and the Pressure Cooker for a night of reggae at Johnny D's in Davis Square. 7/25: Checked out the visiting replica Irish potato famine ship Jeanie Johnston during today's bike ride, and then caught the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company's performance of MacBeth on Boston Common. 7/21: Did lunch with DargonZine writer Jim Owens and his wife, who were in town. 7/19: There's always something exciting happening in my neighborhood. This time it was a fire in the building across the street. 7/13: Biked up 2008-foot Wachusett Mountain, the tallest peak in eastern Massachusetts, as part of the Charles River Wheelmen's 60-mile Climb to the Clouds. 7/9: Read David Stuart's biography of Alan Watts, the man who brought Zen and eastern philosophy to the US in the 1950s and 1960s. 7/8: Went to Maine to visit my brother and spent time at the Maine Wildlife Park in Gray. 7/5: Spent an evening with former co-worker Darryl Herbst and his wife, who were in town visiting. 7/4: Annual 4th of July party at Mizago's on Beacon Hill. 7/3: Read Les Woodland's "Unknown Tour de France" just as the centennial Tour kicked off in Paris. 7/1: There's always a couple really big music days each summer. I began this one at noon, when the Allstonians took the stage in City Hall Plaza, then caught Matt Jensen's Acid Reggae Xperience at Berklee, and ended the day at the House of Blues with Beat Soup. I also finished Thich Nhat Hanh's "Zen Keys". |
