Autonomous flight! Combination of PDC10 (GPS controller) and PDC20 (altitude hold) worked. The plane navigated three point course and settled down on loop trajectory around last point while maintaining the altitude. For more than 10 minutes the plane was flying by itself and I was only adjusting camera view using a knob on my transmitter. The altitude was maintained within +/- 50 ft and that's good enough for the plane. I am totally happy with the results!
The pictures below are taken later during the flight when I was in control of the plane and therefore the altitude has changed from picture to picture.

Second camera view shows GPS screen from inside the plane. The view can be remotely activated by RC transmitter and provides absolute altitude, heading, and ground speed numbers. 03/29/02 the main camera malfunctioned and we had to abort the flight and land the plane. The ribbon cable connecting camera's CCD board to the DSP board is to blame for the problem some lines just got disconnected due to the wear. Well, it is good excuse to switch to new high resolution camera which is long overdue anyway. |
