Kitesurfing and Windsurfing in South Padre Island is awsome. The wintertime is particularly sweet with warm, sunny, windy days. Endless sandy beaches with chest deep waters make it one of the safest spots in the world. The site is great for beginner or expert as you can kite in high winds and land in flat water that is as smooth as butter. You can go for miles on a downwinder and have your friends pick you up along the bay. You also have the choice of the Gulf of Mexico and surf. |

Surfing Believe it or not the Gulf of Meico does get surf! South Padre Island is the best Surf spot on the entire gulf. No we are not looking at 10'- unless it is a hurricane but there are nice small waves that are fun and easy for beginners and kids -very forgiving. The ocean is pristine clean and warm. So if it doesn't blow you can go out surfing with the entire family. Or if it does blow, the waves are much more gentle than in many ocean kiting and windsurfing spots. |

This map shows the entire South Padre Island area. The North Flats, South Flats and the Jetties are the three most popular spots. Downwinders can be done along the entire length of the gulf -a 7 mile ride in the waves. The Madre Lagoon is very wide and primarily chest deep with wide sand beach on either side. This is the safest place in the world there is to kite.
