Bright Moments
|
May 1st, Denise returned from her favorite place and during her favorite
time of the year, St. Petersburg, Russia. The weather was incrrediblily
sunny and warm. This visit also coincided with the arrival of a unique fish,
"Korushka," which swims up the Neva River once a year, very tasty
and plentiful and her favorite.
Performing for the opening of Shatyor, s summer cafe operated by the
famous Opera Restaurant. It was a tented glamouras affiar. She also heard
the first draft of music being written for her symphonic chamber concerts
later this fall. Reuniting once again with her musical director/pianist,
Andrei Kondakov, photographer, Olga Urvantseva and good friend and promoter,
Genady Shamin, made this trip very special.
As always..............GET UP, GET OUT and ENJOY the MUSIC.......SEE
YOU THERE.........!

Denise's newest CD is out and available via Jazz Now Direct
CD store, or from www.wireonfire.com/deniseperrier and it's titled, Live at Yoshi's, Blue Monday Party.....Get
in line!!! This is more than just another CD! |
In JazzWeek Jazz Chartbound November 26, 2004 Denise's CD Live
at Yoshi's Blue Monday Party was number 4 out of 12 on the chart. |
Noted composer / lyricist Hugh Martin says: "This new album of
yours is the best Jazz I've heard in sixty or seventy years. I can't believe
anyone can sing Ellington & Jimmie Mchugh; etc.,like you (do) in the
twenty first century!....Something new and thrilling has come into your
work. There is a sureness, an infallibilityof musicianship that is overwhelming!" |
From Jazz 89 KUVO Denver Radio:
We received your effervescent CD. (Denise Perrier Live at Yoshi's
Blue Monday Party) We like it, and are playing it. I am pals with (Clifford
Brown, Jr.) Brownie Jr. so it's good to see his liner notes. I like the
Latin-tinged moments of your album. I'll be at the IAJE in January in Long
Beach, so call, if you're going I hope to catch up with you. Are my colleagues
at KCSM playing you? Jessie "Chuy" Varela is my ace in the place.
We carry Bob Parloche overnight here as well.
Too bad the Duke medley is too long for radio, (except for KKUP 91.5
FM Cupertino, CA) it's fabulous. I'm old enough, not only to remember what
a rumpus room is, but t recall your brother's, Paul Jackson, tremendous
performance with the Brothers Escovedo's Azteca ensemble. Ever since I heard,
"Can't Take The Funk Out Of Me," that along with Tower's "You
Got To Funkafize" and the Headhunters with the 4 Pointer Sisters' "God
Made Me Funky" have been my trifects of funk anthems fueling my East
Bay grease to this day.
...Live at Yoshi's is a nice album, thanks for all the "bo
do di o do's" and keep swingin' and bubblin' Fantastic to see someone
finally cover Dinah's "Big Long, Slidin' Thing..." Great Job
