First Generation

1. Joab1 Whitten (#480) was born in Amherst County, Virginia 1822. Joab died 1862 at 40 years of age.

He married Mary Francis Allen in Amherst County, Virginia, November 12, 1850. (Mary Francis Allen is #481.) Mary was born March 15, 1829. Mary was the daughter of Thomas Oliver Allen and Mary Garnette Tinsley. Mary died February 12, 1927 at 97 years of age. Her body was interred in Willow, Amherst County, Virginia, Mt. Horeb Cemetery.

Joab Whitten and Mary Francis Allen had the following children:

child 2 i. Harry2 Whitten (#2498).

child 3 ii. Anna Eliza Whitten (#484) was born in Willow, Amherst County, Virginia October 29, 1853. Anna died January 08, 1930 at 76 years of age. Her body was interred in Willow, Amherst County, Virginia, Seaton Stinnett Family Cemetery. She married Nathaniel Thomas Stinnett January 26, 1876. (Nathaniel Thomas Stinnett is #489.) Nathaniel was born in Willow, Amherst County, Virginia November 25, 1853. Nathaniel was the son of Seaton Edward Stinnett and Lucy H. Burford. Nathaniel died March 19, 1917 at 63 years of age. His body was interred in Willow, Amherst County, Virginia, Seaton Stinnett Family Cemetery. (See Nathaniel Thomas Stinnett for the continuation of this line.)

child + 4 iii. Augustus Devereaux (Dev) Whitten was born May 05, 1855.

child + 5 iv. William Thomas Whitten was born September 20, 1856.

child + 6 v. Joseph Tinsley Whitten was born May 13, 1860.

child + 7 vi. John Wesley Whitten was born 1861.

child + 8 vii. James Harrison Whitten was born September 1862.
