"COLONISTS of the QUEREND in NEUBÖRM" The "Colonist" community of Neubörm sent one of its sons, Johannes Niemann, to the new world of America. Trained at the Lutheran Seminary in the nearby town of Kropp, Johannnes was one of many pastors sent to aid and support the German churches and their communities in North America. Other members of the Niemann Family remained in Neubörm, and the cousins of Johannes are still to be found there in the surrounding farm-land communities.
The Wassermühle (outside Neubörm) The "Colonists", invited by the Danish King Frederick V to cultivate the low-lands of the "Börmer Koog", settled Neubörm and its surrounding farm villages in the 1700's when they arrived from the Baden-Baden district of southern Germany . Into that community came Hans Niemann, the father of Johannes, when he married one of its daughters, Catharina Coordts. As far as can be determined, the ancestors of Hans were among the earlier settlers of Schleswig-Holstein. |
