in october 1996 monchie went on a very cool steam train ride, a 174-mile round trip from hoboken, nj to port jervis, ny (the town where new jersey, new york, and pennsylvania all meet on the banks of the delaware river). pulling the 24-car train at speeds of up to 80 mph was chesapeake and ohio no. 614, the very last steam engine built for passenger service in the usa, rolling out of the factory in 1948.
monchie has received information that more hoboken-port jervis trips of no. 614 are planned for june 6 &7 and 14 &15, 1997. For more info and #614 and the upcoming trips, as well as more pictures, check out injersey's c & o #614 website or call (908) 236-2200.
