Statement of Purpose
Syntropic Villages aim to find or create new social forms that advance the evolution of open, democratic systems and, simultaneously, to create healthy, more intelligent lifestyles for ourselves and our fellow human beings.
Pensema, our publishing house, publishes literature and art that is constructive in relation to major problems in the post-modern world. We strive especially to further the evolution of democracy toward more just and effective forms.
World View
Sadly, our modern democracies are still riddled with authoritarian, corrupt, and antidemocratic processes. Building an authentic and thoroughly democratic system will take time. Unfortunately, given the rapid drift toward global ecodisaster that is projected by world-system scientists, we may not have as much time as we think. Yet without genuinely democratic problem-solving on a global scale, humans are likely to experience catastrophic suffering over increasingly large areas of the Earth during the next fifty years. Creating democracy in time, therefore, must be the principle concern as we enter the Third Millennium.
How You Can Participate
You can become a Partner in one of our Syntropic Investment Clubs. We save and invest in environmentally clean and citizen-friendly companies. Our investments over the first one and a half years of our existence have produced returns of from sixty to over one hundred per cent for our individual and community accounts. Investments involve risk, of course, and our past returns do not guarantee future results, but our investment horizon is long term and our portfolio is highly diversified.
If you would like to join in the development of a more democratic culture, please write or send e-mail via The Political Survey Form (see above) to the Center for the Evolution of Democracy.
If you are interested in ways you can utilize the Internet to create extensions of democracy or a new type of democratic organization, select Books or Virtual Democracy Project from the list above.
If you already belong to an organization that needs an artist or muralist, select Art/Murals or Independent Artists from the list above.
