It's no wonder the people of Montreal are so colorful.  There water supply is colorful.  This photo was taken on a very hot day in La Rhonde, a kids amusement park on the island in Montreal.

They love to smoke in Canada, despite the high prices of around $5.00 per pack for cigarettes.

This fleur-de-lis is part one of my four-photo sequence.  It's one of the many subtle signs of the appreciation of a non-existent French monarchy, despite the British presence in this French speaking city.

Although it is decorative, it's hard to imagine this as anything but a Quebequoi separatist statement.

...or maybe it's just a way of saying that we like French culture better than English culture, or there's enough English culture in the USA.  Let's hold on to some of our French roots.

That's not so hard to understand.  I think you might find the same sentiments in New Orleans.  Of course that was before Gulf War 2.

This was in a doorway, not far from old Montreal.

For some reason, they love these types of diamond patterns. I bet it has to do with the British Royalty too.

The high relief of this drain might be required due the close proximity of the Ottawa River.

Many cover photos do not seem to successfully capture this subtle light and shadow.

Sometimes I feel like I haven't captured a location until I've found a face in the pavement.  This one is weary.

This is becoming a series on its own...

If I wasn't related (by marriage) to people in Hawkesbury, I would never have visited this God forsaken town.  Well actually, its God forsakenness is probably more of a God's blessing, since many of its people are pure of heart, and visiting the downtown is like going back in time, with all the bargain shops and cigarette smoking.  Oh, by the way, that's me and my son Jason's shadow.  I held the camera in a way that you couldn't tell I was shooting the photo.

This cover was very unassuming, but striking.

The calm before the storm...

This storm drain sewer cover photo has strength and resistance written all over it.  You can almost see the wind and the storm in the sand.  How else could they weather the severe Canadian storms?

That sounds like a cake, or a dance... Do the Hawkesbury Crumble... I had a lot of fun shooting the streets of Hawkesbury from my bike, which we took on the back of the van.

This is a very nice town to ride a bike and shoot photos.

The bird on the top of that piling looked fake.

Brockville is also a lakeside community with a pleasant marina and park.

It appears that you must put money in this meter to knock on this door, or ring the doorbell, or maybe sit on the front step.

My guess is that this cover was placed there way before the plaza was paved.
