San Francisco Area, CA

San Francisco Water Department

San Francisco Water Department

This water valve is located in the renovated Ghiaradelli section of San Francisco.  It somehow holds on to that old San Francisco charm.

SF, Department of Public Works

Department of Public Works

This Department of Public Works manhole cover is spotted with chainlike designs.  (Of course, the almost dried up rain puddles help.)

PG & E in the Grass

PG & E in the Grass

Here is another example of one of my favorite motifs... that is being a manhole cover in the middle of a field of freshly grown grass and weeds.  The contrast of the rusty bronze with green grass is very uplifting.  It's almost like it's the sewer cover's resin d'etre.

Los Altos CA, Cover in the Hi-Burbs

Cover in the Hi-Burbs

This sewer cover has a beautiful silver quality.  It is located in Los Altos just outside the house of one of my friends in Silicon Valley.  Soon, there may be one of these hanging inside the house as well.  Too late, they just moved to Seattle.

SF, Hyde St. Sidewalk Cover

Hyde St. Sidewalk Corner Cover

This cover is located at the top of Hyde Street in San Francisco, near Lombard Street.  Most cities do not label there streets on the sidewalks, but I guess there are many pedestrians looking down in the city of hills.

SF, Lombard St. Area TV Cover

Lombard St. Area TV Cover

This cover shows the importance of underground TV wires to the San Francisco resident.  I wish this was the case in Boston.  One of my next photo series will focus on those ugly TV, electrical and telephone wires.

Lombard St. Area Water Department Cover

This cover has a distinct similarity to the art of Paul Klee.  It contains both yesterday and today, static and kinetic forces and the functional and disfunctional.

Ghiradelli Square Area Boardwalk Wooden Access

This access cover is obviously an attempt to make the best of a tough situation.  Someone must have thought of the need to get under this spot after building the boardwalk.

San Raphael Crack

This crack has a definite amorphous or should I say fishmorphous tendency. The fish is getting ready to eat the napkin.  It turns out that San Raphael has some of the most creative potholes around.

San Raphael Pothole Puddle

This puddle is deep enough to contain the world as evident by the cloudlike dirty water surface.
