Osaka,
Castle
Cover
This manhole cover was the first painted cover that I
saw in Tenroku, Osaka. On my way back from a 2 hour morning walk, I thought I was going to
get completely lost. I was however, on time for my 10am appointment.

Osaka, Mister
Donuts
The colors of Tenroku blew me away, as you can see. |
|
Osaka, New Utility Cover
This tidy cover photo was also taken on my wall through
Tenroku.

Osaka, Hokusai with Wires
How do you like your Hokusai? With lots of wires
and street poles of course. Now I know why the Japanese like Times
Square in NYC. |
|
Osaka, Trash Day
This photo has some elements that are very familiar to
Americans, and some elements that are very foreign to us, namely the large
memorial stone. |
|
Osaka, Water Treatment Device Cover
This cover is adjacent to a large Osaka tomb and
although it looks very spiritual and grave-like, the inscription is Water
Treatment Device. |
|
Osaka, Memorial Grounds
Cover
Despite its functional purpose, this cover has beautiful flowering decorations.
|
|
Nara, Gray Cover
This cover was on the street of the very holy city of
Nara, where the Japanese built a large gold Buddha and temple. There
were many deer roaming the city and yet it was kept very clean due to the
diligence of a highly attentive crew of maintenance people.
|
|
Nara, Brown Cover
This cover has interesting blend of geometric and
calligraphic elements with a rich brown rust color and a tan cement
crust.
|
|
Kobe, Silver Cover
This cover photo was taken in Kobe just before sunset.
The sharp light contrast emphasizes the strong Japanese graphic
elements. |

somewhere between
Tokyo and Kyoto, Paddies
Now there's a symbiotic drainage system! The whole
country knows how to move water around very efficiently for highly
specific purposes. |
