The Italian Job

Synopsis

Mark Wahlberg assembles his team of thieves to try to steal back $30 million in gold that Ed Norton stole from them a year ago.

What I Thought

I was expecting another fun Ocean's 11 and instead got a too-long boring ad for a car. The Mini-Cooper is the star of the show, and I got to admit that it's a pretty toy.

As to the actual movie, it's an OK storyline. But there are several problems with it:

  1. They're crooks. Thieves. They stole $30 million. I have NO sympathy for them.
  2. It's s-l-o-w.
  3. Did I mention it's s-l-o-w?
  4. You know those porn movies that try to have a "plot"? Yeah, like that. But without any fun bits in between. Not that I would know, of course...
  5. Ed Norton has NOTHING to do. He just sneers at the camera & the other actors. He's better than this. Sadly, so is Mark Wahlberg.

Unfortunately, most of the actors suffer like Ed Norton. You have some funny bits with Seth Green as the computer geek, but even his jokes tend to fall flat. One funny flashback is the cameo appearance by Shawn Fanning (creator of Napster). Apparently, Green was napping (get it?) when his roommate Sean stole the code to Napster in college.

If you must see it, I think it's a rental. Maybe you'll like it. But I'd rather see Ocean's 11.

If I could fit in one, I'd buy a Mini Cooper though.
