Old School

Synopsis

Vince Vaughn, Will Farrell, and Luke Wilson are three middle-aged guys who have messed up private lives. So they move into Luke's new house, which just so happens to be rezoned for university use. Logically, they decide to turn it into a frat house. Little do they know that the University dean is someone they used to make fun of & beat up. You can write the rest of the script...

What I Thought

The first thing I thought was "FINALLY I see the first movie in 3 months!"

The second thing I thought was that this movie was pretty funny. You can imagine that most of the laughs come from Will ("Frank the Tank") Farrell (the frat boy who hasn't yet grown up), but Vince Vaughn has some funny scenes as well (he plays the husband who wants to relive his crazy single days), you've all seen the preview where he's using the gymnastic rings smoking a cigarette. Luke Wilson (the quiet guy who gets dragged along by his friends) is a steadying presence.

Now, this movie isn't as funny as I thought it would be. Yes, it actually has a storyline, which is unexpected. Farrell does deliver, especially in the streaking scene and the KY-wrestling. But the movie was a lot more toned down than I was expecting, with very little nudity and swearing. Don't get me wrong, this is still a Farrell frat movie. It reminds me a bit of Animal House but without the ferocity & nowhere near the comedy of it.

All in all, a pleasant waste of an afternoon.
